Kentucky to the World’s (KTW) –first Modern Thinkers Social Series programs will be held on June 16, 2017. The Modern Thinkers Social Series is a fresh, unique experience designed specifically for young adults. It is comprised of two events, a half day event planned for middle school students and an evening event focused on young adults. This series employs ideas from models such as South by Southwest (SXSW) and Coachella by embracing the intellectual and cultural spectrums through the lens of unique Kentucky talent.
Tracy Drain joins KTW as the first featured guest on Friday, June 16. Tracy is a prime example of a female that has been successful in a male-dominated field, and she has a captivating story to tell about her rise to the top of the corporate and social ladder.
On June 16th in collaboration with the Kentucky Science Center, 150 middle school students will join Tracy by invitation only in the morning for a two hour multi-faceted program.
That evening Tracy joins us at Copper and Kings for a ticketed event beginning with a pre-program reception at 5:30 p.m. and her presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. Young adults are invited to join Tracy for a meet and greet, intimate conversation, and post-event question and answer session. Tracy will share insights about growing up in Kentucky, the development of her career and the challenges she faced while shattering the glass ceiling. With a charismatic personality, Drain is well equipped to stimulate interest in her field of inquiry and showcase her excitement about solving new and complicated problems.
Ticket price $20.00, includes a drink (soft or hard). Food will be available on site.
The evening event will include:
Keynote Talk (NASA Flight Systems Engineer Tracy Drain)
Multimedia Art Exhibition (Curated by August Northcut)
Live Collaborative Musical Performance
Film Screening of original documentary piece by the Kentucky to the World production team.
For three years, we have successfully presented the KTW Speaker Series by showcasing the talent, ingenuity, and excellence of outstanding men and women with strong Kentucky ties. We’re continuing to spread the word that Kentucky is about a whole lot more than fine bourbon, basketball, and bluegrass.
Our speaker series programs have always included a high school student component. High school students have been deeply affected by their interactions with our speakers. After having 10 KTW programs that have grown attendance from 20 people to 450 people in a 2 ½ year time frame, we realize we can play an increased role in preparing young adults for the 21st century globalized workforce particularly within the realm of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) career fields.
The event will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at The Copper & Kings Distillery, 1121 E Washington St., in the historic Butchertown Neighborhood. 5:30 Reception, 6:30 Program with discussion panel and live music to follow. Tickets are $20 and include admission and one specialty Copper & Kings cocktail.
