ANGEL MCCOUGHTRY
WNBA basketball player & gold medal Olympian
Selected number one overall from the University of Louisville in the 2009 WNBA draft, Angel McCoughtry has built a career as one of the most accomplished professional basketball players in the league.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, McCoughtry developed as a competitor. In high school, she was routinely scouted by different universities aiming to get her commitment. To cultivate her skills that much more, she attended The Patterson School in North Carolina. After considering different options, she came to the University of Louisville in 2005.
As a Cardinal, she broke many records, including the all-time individual point total over a season and the all-time record for individual points scored in a game. Because of her role building a name for the women’s basketball program at U of L, she was chosen first overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2009.
During her time in the WNBA, she drove the Dream to the finals twice, in 2010 and 2011. Despite never winning the championship in those instances, she still managed to set individual records. Additionally, during her career as a professional basketball player, she was able to win Gold Medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games.
Departing from the Dream in 2020, she first played in Las Vegas before moving to the Istanbul sporting club Galatasaray.
