Ellen MillerEllen S. Miller is the co-founder and executive director of the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based, non-partisan non-profit dedicated to using the power of the Internet to catalyze greater government openness and transparency. She is the founder of two other prominent Washington-based organizations in the field of money and politics – the Center for Responsive Politics and Public Campaign — and a nationally recognized expert on transparency and the influence of money in politics. Her experience as a Washington advocate for more than 35 years spans the worlds of non-profit advocacy, grassroots activism and journalism.

She spent nearly a decade working on Capitol Hill.

Ellen Miller is a native Kentuckian having been raised in both Bardstown and Louisville. She has maintained her close Kentucky ties over the years even though she and her family live in Washington, D.C. Ellen serves on the Board of Directors of the Sunlight Foundation, Publish What You Fund, the Center for Responsive Politics and Heaven Hill Distilleries. She is a Trustee of the Awesome Foundation, Washington, D.C. and is a member of the Policy Advisory Council of Transparency International, U.S.

Introducing Our Moderator – Ted Smith

Ted SmithTed Smith was appointed by Mayor Greg Fischer as the Director of Louisville Metro Government’s Department of Economic Growth and Innovation. Ted’s efforts include the 2012 IBM Smarter City Challenge-winning adoption of Asthmapolis sensor inhalers across Louisville to develop a new understanding of asthma. Ted also serves on the Business faculty of the University of Louisville where he leads the Health Sector Management MBA. Prior to city government, he was appointed Senior Innovation Advisor in the HHS Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) of Health IT. He founded chronic disease news service MedTrackAlert which was acquired by Health Central in 2008. He holds a B.S. from Allegheny College and M.A. and Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Miami University (OH) and a post-doc at MIT. He was a Co-Investigator for the Neurolab shuttle mission. He was named 2013 Government Technology’s “Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers.”
