KENTUCKY: RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ECONOMIC CHANGE
Nothing shapes the possibilities we dream and the solutions we discover quite like the stories we share. And, who better to help us tell the story of the future of Kentucky than individuals who are working towards building it?
We’ve partnered with MIT Comparative Media Studies Researcher and AccelerateKY Executive Director Sam Ford to tell the story of Kentucky’s economic future during our year-long initiative in hopes of inspiring people throughout our Bluegrass state and beyond to see what’s possible, and to think about a future for themselves here.
This series, in collaboration with Sam Ford, highlights stories of innovation in a state where core 20th-century economic drivers like coal mining, tobacco farming, traditional manufacturing, and transportation have faced significant disruption in the first two decades of the 21st century.
The series premiere features our Resilience Initiative's kickoff event in August 2021 at Waterfront Botanical Gardens where Sam spoke with a panel of thought leaders including Vijay Kamineni, Chief Innovation & Technology Leader at Logan Aluminum; Rusty Justice, Founder of Bit Source; and Dr. Alison Davis, Executive Director of the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) at the University of Kentucky.
The kickoff event highlighted in the premiere showcases the panel's discussion of personal stories focused on the realities of Kentucky’s evolving economy and discussion on how to move forward to achieve innovative economic and workforce development in the Commonwealth.

Chef Samantha Fore, Food & Wine Magazine’s August 2019 featured cover chef and proprietor of Tuk Tuk Sri Lankan Bites in Lexington, Ky. Chef Kristen Smith, Chef/Owner/Farmer of The Wrigley Taproom & Eatery in Corbin, Ky —a farm-to-table Appalachian restaurant.
