FINIS 'KY' WHITE

I was born Finis White in Lexington, KY. I grew up on Winburn Drive. We didn’t have much, but I always had music. Music was my outlet. I never saw myself going to college, and CEOs didn’t hang out in my neighborhood. Where I’m from, if you want it, you have to get it out in the mud yourself. Growing up where I did taught me my work ethic, and realizing that music could be a career, I decided to pursue it full time.

I’m not an overnight success. I’ve moved to Atlanta twice, had a few dead end jobs trying to make enough money to support myself until I could do music full time. I have even been homeless and had to sleep in my truck. (I still have that truck btw.) I taught myself everything I know. I learned by staying in the studio and working up under anyone who would let me be part of a session and pushing my craft on a daily basis. Hard work, persistence, and my God-given ear for good music finally made a way for me to make a living after years of trial and error.

I got my first big break working with Lil’ Wayne. I even moved to Miami with him. I recorded and mixed several hit records for Wayne including one of the most famous mixtapes of all time, “No Ceilings.” Since then, I’ve also recorded and/or mixed artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Madeintyo, Missy Elliot, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Tee Grizzley, Cyhi the Prince, and others.

Since those days I’ve taken the leap from a multi-platinum engineer to being a business owner. In 2016 I opened Bass Recording Studios in Atlanta. The crazy thing is, this is just the beginning. Stay tuned. More is on the way. #HardWorkPaysOff
