PERRY BACON, JR.
Journalist, political reporter, on air-analyst
As a journalist for news outlets including TIME, The Washington Post, MSNBC, NBC News and, most recently, FiveThirtyEight, Perry Bacon, Jr. has consistently reported on the pulse of American politics. Born in the Shively neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, he showed a unique interest in and discipline for pursuing stories around the city, eventually interning at The Courier-Journal as a high school student.
From following President Obama’s international travels to Brazil and Chile in 2008 as a foreign policy correspondent to covering the tumultuous election cycles of 2016 and 2020 as a senior political reporter, Bacon has captured both a changing nation and media landscape. In 2017, Kentucky to the World featured a conversation between Bacon and Congressman John Yarmuth at the Kentucky Center for the Arts’ Bomhard Theater. In addition to his work at FiveThirtyEight, he covers Kentucky government, elections, and politics as well as culture in his newsletter Bluegrass Beat.
